How EcoLedger™ Works
The core of EcoLedger™ functionality integrates with Topper Stopper™ units. The units, designed to inhibit contamination of the recycling stream and collect data about items recycled, are installed on our clients’ existing recycling bins, transforming them into smart, data-gathering hubs.
A consumer places an item (plastic bottle or aluminum can) in the recycling bin starting with a scan of the barcode on the package label of the item. The barcode is scanned by the Topper Stopper™. If the item is recyclable, the door of the Topper Stopper™ opens, allowing the item to be deposited. This action triggers the creation of a unique transaction identifier that is immediately logged onto a client-specific ledger within EcoLedger™ .
Comprehensive Data Collection and Validation
The data recorded on the ledger extends far beyond a simple record of activity. Each transaction includes a detailed set of metrics, including:
- The time of the scan
- The precise location of the scan
- The brand of the item recycled
- The type of material
- The dry weight of the material
